Neighborhood Approach
When one neighbor struggles it impacts us all. Homes are more than just four walls and a roof — they are the foundation of communities. When one neighbor is unsafe in their home, the ripple effect impacts the entire community.
Our neighborhood approach means we commit to specific neighborhoods for years at a time, partnering with residents to make sure our work reflects each area’s history, strengths and goals. By making existing homes safer, we keep longtime families rooted and cultivate resilient, vibrant communities. Our current Target Communities are Bordeaux and Dickerson Pike, as illustrated here. If you are in need of repairs and aren’t sure if your home is located within these boundaries, use our interactive map below.
Target Community Strategy
The critical home repairs we provide to Nashvillians are an important part of preventing the displacement of longtime Nashville residents as the cost of housing for buyers and renters across the city increases. Many RTN homeowners would not be able to afford renting in Nashville, let alone buying another home, if they had to make the difficult decision to leave their homes because they were unable to afford repairs to maintain a safe and healthy home.
We use data from the U.S. Census to determine our target communities, ensuring we’re serving the Nashville residents most at risk of displacement. We look for indicators that show us which areas have the highest populations of households meeting our eligibility criteria, as well as specific risk factors like low household incomes, a large population of older adults, and lower than average assessed property values.
RTN analyzes census data to identify the Nashville neighborhoods where residents are most vulnerable to displacement. By tracking key demographic and economic risk factors, we make sure our work goes where it's needed most, and before families are forced to leave.
