History

Rebuilding Together Nashville began under the name Christmas in April in 1995— founded and sustained for many years by members of the local architecture community in Nashville. They came together, volunteering their time and skills to repair their neighbors’ homes. They called their effort “Christmas in April,” with the intent of gathering around a month of service each year in April.

In 2001, we officially changed our name to Rebuilding Together Nashville but continued the work  of bringing volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners.

In 2010, we hired our first staff members and rolled up our sleeves to respond to the needs of homeowners impacted by the devastating May flood. Between July 2010 and July 2011, we served 141 flood-impacted homes with the help of over 2,430 volunteers.

Today, we find ourselves similarly responding to the affordable housing crisis facing our neighbors in need who struggle to maintain their homes on fixed incomes with the rising cost of living in our communities. Rebuilding Together is uniquely positioned to assist our low-income neighbors with their critical home repair needs to that they can safely and comfortably continue to live in their long-term homes and neighborhoods.
